影片根據(jù)虹影同名長(zhǎng)篇小說(shuō)改編，以重慶“山城”為地理背景，講述了在1976年，12 歲少年竇小明因受傷進(jìn)了醫(yī)院，認(rèn)識(shí)了對(duì)他照顧和關(guān)愛(ài)有加的護(hù)士佳惠。佳惠生得美貌，卻嫁給當(dāng)?shù)鼗焐鐣?huì)的青年鋼哥，常常遭受家暴。竇小明得知此事后站出來(lái)打抱不平，從此改變了他們?nèi)说拿\(yùn)。
